I’m so excited to finally release this track!
However, the inspiration behind this one requires a bit of explaining.

Back in 2017, I went to the CD Baby DIY Musician conference in Nashville, Tennessee. During my time there, one of the many wonderful musicians I met was a singer/songwriter named Sara Quah. We had a great conversation about music, the industry, and a lot of other stuff. And, of course, we talked about collaborating. When I got back to my hotel room that night, I listened to her music and found that she was indeed very talented. Particularly at songwriting. One song in particular – “Refugee” - grabbed my attention. It was a live performance without her band. Just Sara and her guitar. Something in that song really inspired me. When I saw her the next day, I told her that I wanted to do a remix of it. She seemed a little surprised that I had chosen that song, but seemed to warm up to the idea.

As soon as I got back home I started working on it. At that time, she wasn’t able to record an acapella of the song for me, so I used the audio from the YouTube video and built a track around it. It was a very inspired session because “Refugee” is a really good song. To this day, it’s one of the best arrangements I’ve done. When I sent it to her, her response was “holy crap! That’s amazing!!”. Unfortunately, we were never able to work out getting her vocals recorded so it was never released.

So here we are in 2020. I’m 3 years better as a producer and still sitting on one of my best tracks. I decided this arrangement was too good to never see the light of day so I updated the production and re-worked the arrangement into an instrumental I call “Dance of The Refugee”.
Maybe one day Sara and I will collaborate. In the meantime, enjoy a track 100% inspired by her.
